Qinglou Five-section Tour - Double Ninth Festival
Eizan Kikukawa was an ukiyo-e artist of the Edo period, specializing in bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women).
"Seirou Gosekku no Asobi" is a series depicting the scenes of the five seasonal festivals (important annual events in the Edo period) in the red-light district (seirou).
"Chōyō" is one of the five seasonal festivals, referring to the Chrysanthemum Festival held on September 9th, where people admired chrysanthemum flowers and drank chrysanthemum sake to wish for longevity.
In this work, women enjoying the Chrysanthemum Festival at the red-light district are depicted in a glamorous manner.
