In October 2021, Hattan was renewed to be an eco-friendly wallpaper that is even easier to apply!
Easier to apply
The renewed Hattan can now be applied simply by soaking it in water.
A "peel-and-stick adhesive" has been applied to the back of the material, and by soaking the entire item in water, the adhesive strength of the glue returns and it can be pasted like a postage stamp.
The old type of Hattan was applied by mixing the included powder glue into a "glue solution" that dissolved in water.
This wallpaper eliminates the need to make glue, making it even easier to enjoy.
This safe formula is derived from potatoes, and even if it gets on your hands, you can simply wash it off with water.
Eco-friendly wallpaper made from PET bottles
In addition to the processing of the glue, we have also changed the raw materials for the non-woven fabric that Hattan is made from!
Hattan is made from plant-based rayon (60%) and recycled polyester made from plastic bottles (40%).
Non-woven fabric is originally said to be a material with a low environmental impact, but by changing the raw materials to earth-friendly materials, it has been reborn as an even more eco-friendly wallpaper.
In addition, the creases in the material are removed during the soaking process, so it is delivered compactly folded.

How to apply by soaking in water
What you need
- Large bowl
- water
- Hattan wallpaper sheet
- Snap blade knife
- Smoother

Water preparation
Prepare about 2 liters of water in a bowl.
In winter, when the water is cold, we recommend using lukewarm water.

Folding Hattan
Fold the wallpaper with the wrong side facing inwards.

Immerse in water
Immerse in water for about 15 seconds and gently drain until water is no longer dripping.

Blend
Leave it for about 1 to 3 minutes until the glue begins to form on the back.

Start from the bottom
Apply the wallpaper from the bottom up. Be careful not to pull too hard as it may become deformed.

Continue pasting
For the second and subsequent sheets, overlap them by 1 to 2 mm and align the patterns.

After drying, cut off excess
Allow the excess parts to dry and then cut them off.

How to apply by dipping in glue

Fill a bucket with water
Add 1 litre of water for each set of wallpaper into a bucket.

Add the powdered glue
Add the included powdered glue and mix.
Stir the water before adding the mixture and then sprinkle the glue in as you stir to prevent lumps from forming.

Soak the wallpaper in the glue solution
Soak the wallpaper in the adhesive solution.
Make sure the glue is evenly applied to the entire Hattan sheet.

Squeeze the wallpaper
Remove the wallpaper from the glue solution and squeeze out enough glue so that it does not drip.

Paste the first sheet
Apply it from the bottom up.
You can apply it just by rubbing it with your hand, but using a smoother will remove the air and allow for a neater application.

Paste the second and subsequent sheets
From the second sheet onwards, overlap by about 5 mm.
The less overlap, the better the finish will be, but if there is too little, there may be gaps when it dries.

Around obstacles
If there are any obstacles such as electrical outlets, cut around them before applying glue.
It's easy to mark along the obstacle and then cut with scissors.

Cut off excess
If there is any excess on the ceiling, etc., cut it off after it dries.
If more than half is left over, it will be easier to paste if you cut it so that there is less excess before applying the glue.

Finish
Repeat steps 3 to 8 to complete.

The glue that is best for applying Hattan can be made from potato-derived glue powder calledPoteglue and water.
Poteglue is a powdered glue that can be used to create a ”stick and peel” adhesive that can be used for general wallpaper. Please note that the amount used when making a solution from Poteglue will be significantly different from the typical amount of regular wallpaper glue.

If you are sticking it to a ceiling, make the glue thicker .
Please be careful when installing on a ceiling as water droplets are likely to drip down.
*Regular size (45cm square) and big size (90cm square) cannot be attached to the ceiling as they will fall off due to the weight of the wallpaper.
Hattan reusable wallpaper: suitable hanging surfaces and samples
Suitable hanging surfaces and application precautions
- The most suitable material for Hattan installation is plain, light-colored vinyl wallpaper such as white or beige. If you apply it to a surface other than vinyl wallpaper, it may peel off or leave marks when removed.
- Hattan is atransparent material. Due to the low hiding power of the material, if you apply it to a colored or patterned wall, the underlying color or pattern may show through.
- Although it can be applied to a paint base, it may damage the paint when it is removed.
- If you apply it to functional vinyl wallpaper (*) whose surface is coated with water or stain repellant material, or vinyl wallpaper with large surface irregularities (embossed), it will not adhere well. It may come off with little intervention.
If you apply cellophane tape or masking tape and it peels off with little resistance, it is most likely functional wallpaper.
Check the adhesion with a sample
When applying to any substrate, we recommend first testing the adhesion with a sample .
